This piece uses materials and form to explore how masculine ideals within society cause the suppression of male identity and expression. The weight and tension created by putting concrete, a symbol of masculinity, on top of resin, inset with softer ‘identity’ materials, acts as a metaphor for the crushing nature of gender norms. The pyramid shape is used as an abstract form of identity, referencing the pink triangle; a symbol for the LGBTQ+ community.
